Using Scanners with Kurzweil

Hi all,

I'll soon be starting a class to get my associate's degree in medical transcription, and I'll have to get a text-to-speech program to read my books. I've been trying to decide between OpenBook and Kurzweil, but from what I hear, many feel that Kurzweil is better.

Anyway, I'm just wondering which scanners are best to use. I'd like to have one of those all-in-one scanner/printer/copier things, but I'm not sure how well they work with a program like Kurzweil. If they don't work that well, it's okay. I'd still like to know which other scanners work well. Thanks.

Hi, I use Kurzweil 1000 with an all in one printer/scanner. It works really well. Mine is a H P 4140. I don't think they make that model any longer since it is about 3 years old but I would think a new model would work just as well. I am not very techy with computers so I really like that it is easy to use.
I would recommend it to anyone!

Well, Kurzweil will tel you that they can probably get most to work. I'd suggest going to their website and looking at their suggestions. We've had good luck with many of the Cannon scanners. Personally, I'm not fond of the all-in-one devices, although I do see their advantages.

I did look at the list of scanners on Kurzweil's website, but a lot of them have been discontinued. Plus, I like to hear others' opinions and about their experiences with whatever product I'm asking about.

Sorry. I thought they'd do a better job of updating that list. A couple things you might try, though. If you know any kurzweil resellers in your area, or if you could see what other blind rehab places are recommending, that might be another thing to do as well.

I use the HP 5610 ALL in one works with OpenBK and K1000 fairly well. Cost $79.00 from Sam's club and scanns a page in 25 seconds or so.

I have an epson scanner here, which works well with Kurzweil. I also have a Lexmark all in one printer/copier/scanner thing, but unfortunately doesn't work at all with Kurzweil!! Gurr'r'r'r'r'r'r''r'rr'r'r'r'r'r??

Actually I looked around and asked someone and if you go into your settings menu and scanning, you should find Lexmark somewhere on your list of scanners. I'll have a look and post more later.

Sorry about that. I tried to get my Lexmark printer/scanner/copier thing to connect so I could scan a magazine to see if it would work, but it didn't, because according to the website, Lexmark doesn't support Kurzweil, which is a pain because it means I'll have to have both plugged in at the same time.

Hi, I just purchased K100 for work. I'm finding, like another poster said, that a lot of the scanners mentioned are not sold at Office Depot or Office Max. I have to go through Office Depot for work. Does anyone know if the Epson Perfection v200 or v500 will work well with K1000? Thanks
